Braintree Storm Center: Schools to Open Thursday, Parking Ban Expiring

10 a.m.
As of just before 8 a.m., Braintree had a recorded snow total of 9.3 inches, as relayed to the National Weather Service by a ham radio operator. Have you measured? Tell us in the comments below.

The Braintree High at Framingham wrestling match originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22, has been rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23, at Framingham, beginning at 6 p.m., AD Mike Denise reports. Bus is at 3 pm.

The NWS has a Winter Storm Warning in effect in the Braintree area and forecasts a chance of snow until 2 p.m., then a tapering off. Expect wind gusts as high as 31 miles per hour and wind chill dipping as low as -8 degrees.

7:30 a.m.
Town Hall will open late, at 10 a.m. instead of 8:30 a.m., Wednesday morning but will close at 4:30 p.m., according to the mayor's office.

Tuesday, Jan. 21


6:30 p.m.
Archbishop Williams High School will be closed Wednesday.

5 p.m.
There is no school Wednesday, Jan. 22 for Braintree Public Schools students.

Wednesday athletic competitions are being rescheduled.

3:20 p.m.

Town Council President Tom Bowes said that the council meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., originally to be held despite the storm, will now be postponed to Thursday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. because of the severity of the forecast.

See the agenda here (PDF). A ceremony for Martin Luther King, Jr. poster contest winners will be held at another time, Bowes said.

That is the same night as a kindergarten information meeting, to be held at Braintree High School in the auditorium at 7 p.m.

12:50 p.m.
AD Denise updates: The Braintree at Wellesley Girls Basketball game has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 22.  Freshmen at 3:45 p.m. at Sprague, JV at 3:45 p.m. at Wellesley HS and Varsity at 5 p.m. at Wellesley HS.

12:25 p.m.
Braintree Public Schools has announced that all afternoon and evening school activities have been cancelled for Tuesday, Jan. 21.

12:15 p.m.
Today’s basketball contests between Braintree and Wellesley have been postponed. Boys are rescheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and the girls reschedule is TBD.

11:30 a.m.
Athletic Director Michael Denise reports the Braintree/Burlington Boys Gymnastics Meet has been postponed this evening.

It is rescheduled for Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. at Braintree High School.
