BELD Plans Digital Outage to Improve Broadband Network

Six hours of broadband downtime are expected.

The Braintree Electric Light Department will perform maintenance work on its Internet and Digital Phone networks early Thursday morning and is expecting downtime from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m.

"This is a planned upgrade that will increase our ability to serve growing subscriber demands as well as add levels of fault tolerance to our network to make it more reliable," BELD said in a statement on its website. "As part of this upgrade, every connection to every piece of equipment in our network will be moved, modified or re-programmed in some fashion.

"So unlike most of our maintenance that is usually an unnoticed blip, you should anticipate periods during the maintenance window where the Internet or Digital Phone is not operational. If, after 6am, you are still experiencing difficulty, please shut down all of your gear and then turn it all back on – cable modem first, then router, then computers – waiting one minute after each device has been turned on before turning on the next device.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and look forward to the increased performance this upgrade will enable."
