5 Things: July 4th Time Capsule Ceremony, Government Closed

A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Braintree on July 4, 2013.

1. Celebrate with Braintree’s Bi-Centennial Time Capsule Society as they present their annual family friendly event honoring our nation’s past today at 9 a.m. in front of Town Hall weather permitting, if not in the Town Hall Auditorium.

2. Closed today: the Braintree Historical SocietyThayer Public Library, all government offices, including the Senior Center, banks. Retail stores, supermarkets, liquor stores, etc. may be open depending on the owner. 

3. The MBTA today operates on a Sunday schedule, with extra service to and from the Esplanade for Boston's fireworks and Pops concert.

4. The 4th of July, 1776 happened to be the day when the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence. But there was also June 28, when it was presented to the body, and July 2, when the congress approved a resolution separating America from England. There were many other days, too, both before and after the 4th, when men and women worked, fought and died for independence.
