The Angel Fund

(Quincy, MA) - The 10th Annual 100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular, the world's longest baseball game consisting of 100 straight innings over the course of more than 30 consecutive hours, gets underway on Saturday, October 12th at 9 a.m. on Adams Field in Quincy. The game is expected to conclude on Sunday afternoon. Title Sponsor for the event is The Hanover Insurance Group

Proceeds will support ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) research through The Angel Fund, an independent nonprofit charity that benefits ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) research at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at UMass Medical Center in Worcester under the direction of world-renowned ALS research, Dr. Robert H. Brown, Jr.

            Coordinated and hosted by chief umpire Walter Bentson, 100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular has raised more than $560,000.00 for various causes in the fight against ALS since 2004.

            According to Bentson, the game will be officiated by members of the Massachusetts Baseball Umpires Association (MBUA) with several statewide umpiring boards donating their services. At least four umpires will be on the field for all 100 innings and more than 80 umpires will participate in the event, working in two-hour shifts. Bentson, who has officiated innings since 2006, will make his annual ‘midnight appearance’ behind the plate.

“This is a great event, and there are so many people who have helped make this event possible, especially Brett Rudy & Mike Lembo, who created the 100 inning game 10 years ago,” Bentson said. “I thank them for their continued support in keeping this annual tradition going, and for their continued support in the fight against ALS,”  

Players from several metro-Boston Mens’ Leagues are welcome to sign up to play all 100 innings, or as many as they can. There are approximately 10 ballplayers who have played all 100 innings of each of the previous games and most plan to play this year.

Players who want to play more innings are encouraged to fundraise for The Angel Fund at an additional guideline of $10 per hour.
