Comic book, science fiction, and fantasy fans from all over the country will be venturing to the city of Boston to celebrate the 8th annual Boston Comic Con. Boston Comic Con has grown from a one-day show that attracted an estimated 900 comic book enthusiasts to last year’s record turnout of more than 23,000, which organizers expect to top this year with the three-day convention.
This year’s Boston Comic Con will feature celebrity appearances by Jason Momoa of “Game of Thrones;” John Barrowman of “Doctor Who,” “Torchwood” and “Arrow;” Sean Astin of “The Goonies” and “Lord of the Rings” film trilogy; James Marsters of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel;” Katie Cassidy of “Arrow;” Eve Myles of “Torchwood;” Jewel Staite of “Firefly;” Sam Witwer of “Being Human;” Darryl McDaniels, aka DMC, of Run-DMC.
Many of the comic book industry’s most talented creators will be on hand to sign comics and meet their fans including Jeff Smith creator of “Bone;” writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo of “Batman;” writer Gail Simone of “Batgirl;” artist Adam Kubert of “Wolverine;” Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti of “Harley Quinn;” artist Carlos Pacheco of “Captain America;” and cartoonist Sergio Aragones of “MAD Magazine.” Over 200 popular comic book creators and comic book merchants from both around the country and right here in New England will be in Artist Alley selling their wares.
Boston Comic Con will also include a film festival which will showcase feature and short films, and music videos from local and national independent filmmakers throughout the weekend; a Cosplay Harbor Cruise hosted by international costume designer and cosplayer, Ivy Doomkitty on Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.; and a Boston Comic Con After Party with Laugh Boston on Saturday at midnight. Marvel editor CB Cebulski, who has worked on titles including X-Men, Avengers, and Spider-Man, will also be on hand at the convention to do portfolio reviews.
“We are thrilled to have Newbury Comics join us this year as we have more artists, collectors, vendors, and fans registered for Boston Comic Con than ever before,” said Founder and Co-Promoter of Boston Comic Con, Nick Kanieff. “With our first three-day convention full of action packed events and meet and greet opportunities, we are looking forward to the most exciting and successful convention yet.”
