As Labor Day unofficially marks the last day of summer (it's actually Sep. 21), many businesses and companies around town celebrate the day by trying to go away one last time or have one more barbecue.
The summer is also winding down for most Braintree students, who will start their school year on Wednesday or Thursday. Kindergarten students return the following week.
Even though Labor Day is a national holiday, that doesn't mean everything in Braintree is closed.
Closed: All town, federal, state and county offices, most banks (see under open), the post office, and the Thayer Public Library. There will also be no mail delivery today.
Open: Supermarkets, gas stations, restaurants, convenience stores and most retail stores. Though most banks are closed, announced it will be open on Labor Day for normal business hours.
If you decide to head into Boston, the MBTA is running on a Sunday schedule.
