Town Council Meets, Talk on Biography of Joe Moakley

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Braintree on Nov. 6, 2013.

1. The Town Council – the current members, as newly-elected candidates will not take their seats until January – will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at Town Hall.

The agenda includes South Shore Plaza and police officials talking about holiday traffic plans, a National Grid petition for 96 Conrad St., Elder Affairs board appointments and an appropriation for the Elm Street Cemetery.

The Committee on Ways & Means meets at 6:30 p.m. and Public Works at 7 p.m.

2. Thayer Public Library hosts an author talk from 7 p.m. to 8;30 p.m. in the Logan Auditorium with Mark Schneider, who wrote the first biography of popular, long serving Congressman Joe Moakley from South Boston.

3. Students at Braintree High School participate in MCAS ELA Retests starting today, through Friday.

4. It will be a tad warmer today, with a high near 56 degrees and partly sunny, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight there is a chance of showers after 1 a.m., low around 51.

5. Did you know that during the first U.S. presidential election in 1788-89, in which George Washington ran virtually unopposed, less than 2 percent of the population voted?
