Rescheduled Town Council Meetings, BHS Show Choir Performs

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Braintree on Dec. 19, 2013.

1. The Town Council meets at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Town Hall Thursday after being rescheduled from Tuesday due to the snow storm.

Agenda items include finalizing a response to the Attorney General over an Open Meeting Law complaint, and transfer requests for school collective bargaining, capital reserve, the stabilization fund and the Golf Enterprise Fund.

The Committee on Ways & Means meets at 6 p.m.

2. The Braintree High School Show Choir performs at the Rotary Club meeting Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at 120 Bay State Dr.

3. The Board of License Commissioners meets at 2 p.m. in the upstairs Johnson Chambers at Town Hall Thursday afternoon. Click here for a complete agenda.

4. It's a big turnaround Thursday, weather-wise. The National Weather Service is predicting a sunny day with a high near 40 degrees. Plenty of that snow and ice should melt. Thursday night will likely be cloudy with a low around 34.

5. On this day in 1732, Benjamin Franklin began publishing Poor Richard's Almanac. It was printed yearly for 26 years and consisted of a calendar, weather, poems, astrological information and, of course, its famous sayings. Here's a resonate one: "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
