First School Day for Teachers, Town Council and Disabilities Commission

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Braintree on Sept. 3, 2013.

1. Braintree Public Schools teachers return to their schools today, followed by students in grades 1-9 on Wednesday and 10-12 on Thursday.

2. The Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall this evening. The agenda includes a request for Community Preservation Act funds for a recreation facility at 1969 Washington St., money for a UWUA Local 466 contract and a transfer for non-union management personnel.

Prior to that meeting, the Committee on Ways & Means meets at 6:15 p.m. and the Committee on Public Works at 7 p.m.

3. The Commission on Disabilities meets at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Town Hall.

4. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue in Braintree before 4 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. Off-and-on chance through the night. High near 79, low around 59.

5. The deadline for Community Preservation Act projects is today.

Proposals must be submitted to the Community Preservation Committee by Tuesday Sept. 3. More info from the town:
