Decade Day at Braintree High for Spirit Week, Author Talk at Thayer Library

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Braintree on Sept. 25, 2013.

1. Braintree High School students today will dress in the garb of their favorite decade as part of Spirit Week. The Homecoming Rally is Friday afternoon, followed by the Homecoming Dance Saturday at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Last month, the School Committee voted to ban outside students from Homecoming.

2. Author Thomas Mickey will discuss his work, America's Romance with the English Garden, at Thayer Public Library from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Reading Room.

"Following a one hour presentation by the author, there will be a reception with light refreshments at which the author will be present to sign your book. Bring your own copy, or purchase a copy at the event. All proceeds benefit The Friends of Thayer Public Library. All programs are free and open to the public. You do not have to be a resident of Braintree to attend."

3. Activities today at the Senior Center on Cleveland Avenue include:

9:15 Exercise Class

10:00 Crafts and Quilting Group #1

12:00 Pool Players, Poker and Movie Day–movie: “Hyde Park on Hudson”

4. Today should be sunny with a high near 66 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Partly cloudy, low around 53 tonight.
