UPDATE: Dancing with the Braintree High Staff, Councilors on Tax Break

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Braintree on Jan. 15, 2014.

1. THIS EVENT IS THURSDAY, JAN. 16. Braintree High School hosts "Dancing with the Staff" at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is $5.

2. The Town Council's Committee on Ways & Means meets at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Town Hall this evening. On the agenda is a request from Wood Road-based medical technology company Haemonetics for a temporary tax break on its property taxes.

3. Thayer Public Library hosts a first-time homebuyers workshop from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Logan Auditorium.

4. Dry and relatively warm – how about that! Wednesday should be sunny with a high approaching 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight mostly cloudy, low around 31.

5. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on Jan. 15, 1929, in Atlanta Georgia. He went on, of course, to use nonviolent methods of demonstration to lead the U.S. civil rights movement, becoming the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Four years later he was assassinated in Memphis and this coming Monday we celebrate his memory.
