About this column:
Braintree Patch will occasionally show you five photos taken around town and ask where they are from.As part of a Braintree Patch ongoing series, we ask: can you name this Braintree neighborhood? Hint - residents differ on the name(s).
Last week we went with somewhere newsworthy (see below for a link to the photos and answer), and we do the same this Saturday. It's a place you may find yourself for one week, and never again, or may go every day for one reason or another. Can you figure it out? Comment below or email joseph.markman@patch.com. From May 28: http://braintree.patch.com/articles/bright-green-grass-indicates-actual-spring-but-where-is-this#photo-6278273.
Two clues for this one: It's been in the news lately and it's not Dave & Buster's. The latter, for clarification, may be a useless clue. But I'm trying not to make this feature too easy, so there you go. Can you name this area of Braintree? Comment below or email joseph.markman@patch.com. UPDATE: It's the corner of South and Washington streets in the Highlands section of Braintree, where a new playground is planned.
This week's challenge will help you discover just how observant you are driving the streets of Braintree. These five clues could present an impossible mystery or a simple game. Let me know in the comments below or by emailing joseph.markman@patch.com. Which road is this?
After a two week hiatus, Where in Braintree? has once again found itself, this time among five photographs from a specific area of town. They are pretty obscure, so good luck! Email joseph.markman@patch.com or comment below with answers.
When I was about 10 years old I had a ridiculously large picture book with seven or eight diverse, crowded scenes. There was a beach, an out-of-control museum with thieves and paintings run amok, an armada of crazy ships, a zoo, an underwater shot. You get the idea. That was, of course, Where's Waldo? Today you've got five photos of a specific area of Braintree to pore through. You won't find a skinny, red and white-shirted man ditching his walking cane and backpack, but see if you can figure out where these pictures all come from. Comment below or email joseph.markman@patch.com.
You likely drive by them every day, but barely notice their white and blue (and in one case black) patterns. These are the signs welcoming people as they enter Braintree through one of several main roads. Can you guess where each of these five are? With spring approaching (yes, despite all official pronouncements to the contrary, it's still approaching), our eyes and thoughts often turn to the water. Can you figure out which five bodies of water these are around Braintree? If you can, comment below or drop a message at joseph.markman@patch.com.
Ah, more snow. Right when I set out to take more photos for you to locate. Let's hope this is our last Where in Braintree for a while with any hint of white in the background, aside from beautiful spring and summer clouds. Alright, get on it. Below is a link to last week's article with answers in comments. http://braintree.patch.com/articles/can-you-locate-these-braintrees#photo-5400409
This week we're really going theme-tastic on you. These photos are of some high places – some higher than others – around Braintree. Give it your best shot! Here is last week's article with answers: http://braintree.patch.com/articles/photo-locator-without-snow#photo-5223097
Snow – knock on wood – seems to have mostly left Braintree, though cold temperatures and rain persist. But on some days, like a couple this week, you could drive around town and see bits of Spring poking through. These photos are mainly for a different part of Braintree than last week. See if you can guess all five. Below is last Saturday's slideshow with answers at the bottom: http://braintree.patch.com/articles/scattered-about-braintree-these-photos-are#photo-5132299 This week's answers: 1. Liberty Street. 2. Perkins Park. 3. Monatiquot River off Commericial Street. 4. Union Congregational …
On this seasonable Saturday in March, take some time to pick out the locations of these five photographs around Braintree. One hint: four of them are reasonably close to one another, though not as tightly connected as previous Where in Braintree? groupings. The fifth you should get, or no early spring for you. Last week with answer in the comment section: http://braintree.patch.com/articles/guess-this-rainy-scene
Friday was pretty wet – not exactly a photographer's dream. But this feature is all about the sleuth work, not the pretty pictures. If you can figure out where these shots were taken (all in the same area) you'll get a digital slap on the back. Email joseph.markman@patch.com or comment below with answers, comments or ideas. Hopefully this selection is a bit harder than last week's at Grossman Drive. http://braintree.patch.com/articles/guess-these-braintree-theme-photos#photo-4955247
Dirty snow, it seems, is now as inevitable in photographs of Braintree as clean snow was just a few short days ago. This collection of pictures was taken in the same area of town, and consists of sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious clues. Try your best and comment below or email joseph.markman@patch.com with your guesses.
This week, another five photos to identify. At some point we'll have a full set of pictures without snow in them, or so I'm told. In the meantime, keep the guesses coming and I'll keep updating with the answers and hints if need be. And if you would like to see themes or have any other input, email joseph.markman@patch.com.
UPDATE Sunday: Number four is the AMC Theater, as answered by reader Brian and his wife. The last, which was wicked hard, was on a slope to the left if you are driving up the steep hill to the theater just after T.G.I. Friday's. Try again next week! ***** ***** ***** UPDATE 7:30 p.m.: Numbers one through three are answered, by reader Tom Corcoran! They are: 1) The side entrance to Chickatawbut Road near Wood Road. 2) Forbes Road near Logan Express (as seen from the Braintree Printing parking lot across Route 93). 3) Herb Chambers Ford, Granite Street. Numbers four and five proved …
As T.S. Eliot put it, "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.” Or rather less intensely, and perhaps less impressively, name that Braintree location! Comment below or email joseph.markman@patch.com.
Snow is falling constantly. You are stuck in your house more often than not. Wind and cold bites your skin. So why not sit back, relax, and see if you can decide where these photos were taken around Braintree? Submit answers via the comment box below, or email joseph.markman@patch.com. Enjoy! P.S. The snow bank picture was submitted by a resident who couldn't help but laugh.
