Young Men Allegedy Smoking Weed in Car with Girls Busted for Possession in School Zone

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two 20-year-olds from Abington and Weymouth were arrested on Wednesday morning by Braintree police after officers spotted them allegedly smoking marijuana in a car parked near Lincoln Park on May Street.

Danny J. Donovan, of Abington and Erik A. Post, of Weymouth were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and a drug free school zone violation, Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement. Two 17-year-old Braintree girls with them were not charged.

While on patrol, Officer Kenneth Murphy spotted the vehicle parked in a dark, secluded area where there have been numerous reports of drugs, fighting and drinking, Jenkins said.

"When Officer Murphy approached the vehicle, he was able to smell an odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside," Jenkins said. "A search of Post uncovered two bags of marijuana in his jacket pocket."

The officer also found two more small bags of weed in the glove box, which were linked to Donovan, Jenkins said, plus a smaller quantity of marijuana was discovered in the vehicle, along with drug paraphernalia and several empty and
torn “baggies."
