Underage Braintree Man Allegedly Drives Drunk, Resists Arrest

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 20-year-old Braintree man was arrested and charged with various crimes on Sunday after another motorist on Route 93 was struck by pieces of his shredded tire and police found a bottle of alcohol in his glove box.

Brendan W. Bambery was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, being under 21 while transporting alcohol and having an open container of alcohol while driving, Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

Bambery was driving down the highway early on the morning of May 13 when his right front tire shredded and pieces of it hit a 22-year-old Methuen woman's vehicle, according to what she told Braintree police. She pulled over and her 26-year-old Stoughton boyfriend, driving a different vehicle, followed Bambery to Staten Road, Jenkins said.

"Officers David Jordan and Paul Hamilton arrived and made observations
of Bambery causing them to suspect that he was intoxicated," Jenkins said. "Bambery refused sobriety tests and was informed that he was being arrested."

At that point, Bambery resisted and officers were able to subdue him and bring him to the police station, Jenkins said.
