One of the dogs rescued from a Braintree hoarding house last month by MSPCA-Angell went missing Tuesday night in the Wareham area.

“Lani escaped last night at around 5 p.m. when her new owner, Teri DeFilippo of Wareham, brought her home from the MSPCA’s Boston Adoption Center," spokesman Rob Halpin said in an email. "Lani slipped through her leash and took off running toward busy Rt. 6 in Wareham.

"Teri has been looking for Lani all night," Halpin continued. "She contacted Granite State Dog Recovery; she’s posted to Craigslist and Facebook; called all her neighbors; contacted the local police department and animal control officer; and is involving as many people as possible in canvassing the area in search of the dog.

"Teri lives on Church Street in Wareham and is eager for any and all information about where Lani could be. Anyone who may have seen the dog is urged to call the MSPCA-Angell Call Center at 617-522-7400."

MSCPA-Angell Law Enforcement and Adoption Center teams raided the Braintree home Jan. 14 after receiving an anonymous tip. The agency declined to identify the dog owner or the location of the home. Eighteen dogs were found in the home. Four of them were returned after the owner agreed to seek help and one had to be euthanized because it was overly aggressive.

The MSPCA-Angell is a stand-alone, private, non-profit organization. Anyone wishing to contribute toward the dogs' care, and the care of animals like them, may do so by clicking here.
