Braintree

Armed robbery suspect held on bail

Robert Kennedy, 28, of 25 Lincoln St., Apt. 2, Boston, was arraigned in Quincy District Court on a charge of armed robbery and was ordered held on $5,000 bail at the Norfolk County House of Correction. The case was continued to March 5 for a probable cause hearing.

The charge stems from a Sept. 24, 2011 incident in Braintree at 6:50 p.m. when police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Mobil On The Run plaza. Police said a man wearing a white long-sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans, work boots, and black sunglasses went into the store with 35 cents in his hand. He then asked a store clerk what he could buy with that amount. The clerk responded he could buy Wrigley's gum, and at that point Kennedy allegedly demanded the clerk give him money. He then reached over the counter in an attempt to grab money from the cash drawer and threatened the clerk with a syringe. Police said the syringe was in fact a yellow cigarette lighter.
