New Turf at Braintree High Football Field Ready for Homecoming
Braintree High School's first synthetic field is done, with one more close behind.
After a drawn-out process over the summer getting work started on two synthetic turf fields at Braintree High School, the football field will be ready this week, just in time to host the Homecoming game versus Natick.
Final line painting work on the football field was expected to be complete Tuesday afternoon, Athletic Director Michael Denise said. The multi-purpose surface closer to the school will likely be finished the first or second week of November.
"This is the first step of a comprehensive rebuilding... of our athletic complex," Mayor Joseph Sullivan said during Monday night's School Committee meeting. He added that he hopes the field will inspire the Wamps on Friday night against a tough opponent.
BHS football plays Natick at 7 p.m. on Friday. After that, more sports will take to the field, battling on top of the newly-painted, blue B in the center. Girls varsity field hockey will play on Monday and boys varsity soccer on Tuesday. Denise said that his goal is to give every varsity athlete at least one chance to play on the new field.
The turf is being installed by Fleming Brothers Inc., with offices just over the town line in Quincy.
