Liberty Elementary Students Give Back to the Troops

U.S. troops overseas will receive nearly 300 notes from Braintree students this holiday season.

American troops spending the holidays away from their families will receive over 275 notes of support from Braintree youth.

The students of Liberty Elementary School recently partnered up with Dover-based organization Hugs for Heroes to make drawings, cards, and notes for American troops serving overseas.  In addition, every student in the school signed a handmade banner reading “Liberty Elementary and Hugs for Heroes Support Our Troops: We Love You.”

The students’ cards and banner will be included in December shipments of care packages to servicemen and women spending the holidays in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Mireille Manzone, president and cofounder of Hugs for Heroes, said, “The holidays can be a difficult time for troops to be away from their families, and receiving handmade notes of support like these really helps to brighten their spirits.”

Hugs for Heroes is a Dover, Massachusetts-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting American troops serving overseas by sending care packages containing essential items and notes of support.  For more information, please visit
