Hundreds Turn Out for Braintree Police Auction

The auction, held on Saturday at Braintree police HQ, drew a line around the building of people looking to get deals on items like computers and bikes.

Saturday's at Braintree Police headquarters drew so many bidders that it had to start an hour late just to accomodate everyone, auctioneer Tom Weitbrecht said.

"It was insane (in a good way). Hundreds of people showed up," Weitbrecht said in an email. "The line was around the police station!"

The department sold items such as clothing, watches, jewelry, paint ball guns, electronics and stereo components to the highest bidders, as allowed by Massachusetts General Law. Any property in the possession of the police department for one month can be sold by auction if owners of the items do not have a known residence or place of business or, if known, they do not respond to a certified letter after 10 days.
