Friends of Braintree Football Golf Tournament Helps Cover Equipment, Other Costs
Proceeds from the tournament go directly to the Braintree High School Football team and are used to purchase new uniforms, practice gear, and practice equipment.
The Friends of Braintree Football held its first annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 19. The funds raised will be used to defray the cost of the player’s practice equipment and other related expenses.
The tournament drew 64 golfers to the Braintree Municipal Golf Course, including former New England Patriot Steve Nelson. The rest of the field was made up of school coaches, several teams of BHS alumni and football program supporters.
There were also 22 local businesses that sponsored holes at the tournament. The players filled the newly renovated SouthSide Tavern (one of the tournament's sponsors) for a bite to eat after the tournament.
The committee that set up and ran the tournament is already talking about next year’s tournament. Lee Carlson said that they learned a lot from this tournament and are looking to build on its success. This year’s winning team was Tom Whitehouse, Tom Mahoney, Steve Pratt and Jim Clark.
