First of 13 Shar Peis Rescued from Braintree Finds New Home

Following the news earlier this week that MSPCA-Angell raided a Braintree home and rescued 13 purebread Shar Peis from unsanitary hoarding conditions, hundreds of people contacted the animal agency seeking to adopt the dogs.

The first of them – “Taco,” a 6-month old Shar Pei – has been adopted by a Natick couple, John and Lily Storm, while the other 12 continue to recover at the MSPCA-Angell adoption center in Jamaica Plain.

Taco was neutered after being rescued and also underwent eye surgery, spokesman Rob Halpin said in an email.

"He has also been vaccinated and microchipped so he can enjoy the comfort and security of his new family (which includes two other canine friends)," Halpin said. "All of [the Shar Peis] will be heading to their new forever homes over the next couple of weeks."

MSCPA-Angell Law Enforcement and Adoption Center teams raided the Braintree home Jan. 14 after receiving an anonymous tip. The agency declined to identify the dog owner or the location of the home. Eighteen dogs were found in the home. Four of them were returned after the owner agreed to seek help and one had to be euthanized because it was overly aggressive.
