Court Log: Braintree Man Faces Animal Cruelty, Assault Charges

A 41-year-old Braintree man had a pre-trial hearing on charges stemming from an incident in December.

Richard C. Pike, 41, of 21 Marietta Ave., Braintree, had charges of assault and battery, animal cruelty, and witness intimidation continued to Feb. 18 for a pretrial conference.

The charges stem from a Dec. 16, 2010 incident in Braintree. Police said that at 5 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2010, they were dispatched to Pike's residence for a report of a domestic assault. When they arrived they found a male victim sitting on a couch with a puffy eye and small laceration under the eyelid.

The witness claimed he had been punched several times in the face by Pike, who is dating the victim's sister. According to the police incident report, the witness claimed both men had been drinking and got into an argument when Pike said he would kill the victim's dog. He then grabbed the 8-month-old Stafffordshire by the collar and flung him into a cabinet and the dog began to cry. The victim then called police on the telephone and Pike then proceeded to punch the victim in the head and face, causing him to fall to the floor, police said.
