Braintree to Celebrate 4th of July with Time Capsule Ceremony

At 9 am. on July 4, various officials and reenactors will take to Town Hall to honor veterans and the nation's independence, and present an annual report on Braintree's time capsule.

Some 235 years ago on June 28, the U.S. Declaration of Independence was presented to the Second Continental Congress. The president of that body was John Hancock, a Braintree native. John Adams, who helped draft the declaration, was also from Braintree.

So it is fitting that 235 years later, on June 28, 2011, Braintree's bi-centennial time capsule was inspected by two men who currently take care of the cairn in which it rests and that their report was provided to Joe Powers. His own report on the inspection will be presented as part of a 4th of July ceremony in the auditorium on July 4, from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Below is a copy of the official schedule of that celebration, courtesty of the Braintree Bi-Centennial Time Capsule Society.
