Times were if you spoke highly of a restaurant housed in a strip mall people would look at you funny, but not not anymore. Since 1995, Spazio has been satisfying South Shore diners with its Mediterranean-infused menu and extensive wine list, right here in Braintree, and on Quincy Avenue of all places.
The Mediterranean influence, which generally features lots fresh fish and grilled meats, is evident in the menu. Among the grilled offerings are a pork tenderloin with a maple balsamic glaze, served with mashed potato and grilled vegetables ($20) and lamb tops served with sweet potato, served either scampi-style or in a light tomato cream sauce. If you’re looking for the more traditional Italian fare, such as chicken parmesan, chicken cacciatore, marsala, or bolognese, you’ll find those on the menu as well.
Of course, no visit to an Italian restaurant would be complete without a basket of fresh baked bread and Spazio certainly delivers, and then some. Customers, it seems, just can’t get enough of the humus and bean dip Spazio serves alongside its bread basket.

With its rather large appetizer menu, you could also spend a pleasant evening at Spazio just seated at the bar. A grilled pizza with caramelized onions, roasted garlic, and four cheeses ($10.50) with a Roasted Beet Salad ($8) or Traditional Caesar Salad ($7) would make a nice little dinner. Or maybe the P.E.I mussels with chorizo sausage and plum tomato ($8.50), the Grilled Eggplant ($8.50), and a Lobster Risotto ($10) would also serve quite nicely.
Spazio, located at 200 Quincy Ave., is open for dinner Monday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
