Around the Schools: September 25

This week will see more student pictures, PTO meetings, and more.

Picture Time, Part II

This week, students at Hollis and Highlands schools will sit for class pictures. On Thursday, Sept. 29, Hollis students will smile for the camera while the Highlands school students will pose on Friday, Sept. 30. Again, a few reminders from LifeTouch School portraits to ensure the perfect photo: choose solid colors or simple patterns, avoid shirts with slogans, and medium to dark shades can create a timeless look.

Puppet Show

The delightful and adorable cast of Sparky’s Puppets visits Liberty School on Monday, Sept. 26. There will be two separate showings, one at 10 a.m. and another at 1 p.m., of classic children’s tales. Offerings include Aesop’s Fables, the Book Detective, and A Bug Tale.

Flaherty PTO

The Flaherty School PTO is hosting their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Just some of the many area where you can lend a hand include cultural programs, Box Tops for Education, Flaherty Wear, and the upcoming Fall Festival. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the school library.

Testing at Ross

The GRADE Test for Grade 2 students at Ross School will be administered Sept. 27 through Sept. 29. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast on testing days.

MCAS Results

Speaking of testing, the 2011 MCAS results were mailed home this week. Check to see how well your school did overall, and compare Braintree with other districts at the Mass Department of Elementary and Secondary Education MCAS website.

Combat Bullying at the Middle School Level

In an effort to curtail bullying culture both at school and online, the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center (MARC) will speak to South Middle School students in grades 6, 7, and 8 during the School Bullying and Harassment Assembly on Monday, Sept. 26. South’s first PTO Meeting of the year takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. in the school library.

Dine Out for a Good Cause

The Chateau Restaurant will hold a fundraiser for the Morrison School on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Dine out for lunch or dinner and 20% or your bill will be donated back to the school. Contact the Morrison school for details on how to access the required flyer.

Buy a Brick Fundraiser

Now that the exterior of the Highlands received a facelift over the summer, the PTO hopes to spruce up the front walkway with the Memories Marked in Time brick fundraiser. Purchase a brick for $50 or choose a granite plaque for $400. Honor the memory of a loved one or ensure a lasting family legacy at the school with an engraved inscription. Note also that yesterday’s Harvest Fest was rescheduled to next Saturday, Oct. 1. Plenty of volunteers are still needed. Check out the volunteer schedule and volunteer your time if possible.

Braintree High School

The final deadline for senior photos for the Braintree High School class of 2012 is Tuesday, Sept. 27. You may hand deliver your photo to Mrs. Hurley, House 1 Yearbook Mailbox or email her at wampatuckyearbook@gmail.com with Senior Portrait 2012 in the subject line.

A school club membership drive for the Freshmen class will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 27 and Wednesday, Sept. 28. Student representatives from a number of clubs and activities will be on hand to provide information to interested students.
