Anthony King, Braintree Schools Guidance Director, Has Passed Away

Visiting hours for King are Monday, Aug. 20 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the John J. O'Connor & Son Funeral Home in Dorchester.

Braintree Public Schools guidance counselor and administrator Anthony King, who served the school system for 35 years and most recently as Director of Guidance, died unexpectedly last week.

"Tony’s passing is a devastating loss to our school system," Superintendent Dr. Peter Kurzberg said in a note he sent to BPS staff members on Friday afternoon.

"He was as highly respected by students, staff, parents and colleagues with whom he worked throughout the state as any individual could be," Kurzberg said. "His years in the Guidance Department allowed him to serve thousands of students and their parents with the utmost personal care and professionalism. We have all lost a wonderful, caring and  compassionate human being. We express our heartfelt sympathies to Tony’s wife, Jane and his mother, Mary."

Jane Kreinsen-King, King’s wife, retired in June as a BHS English teacher.

Grief counseling will be available at Braintree High School on Wednesday, Aug. 22 and Thursday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The School Committee meeting tonight has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Braintree High so that members may attend King's wake.

I'm not aware yet of a ceremony to be put on by the town or school dept. but I will update with that info when it becomes available.

Tony King will be sorely missed by the town of Braintree, especially the school department. He was a wonderful gentleman, and an utmost professional. His guidance helped so many kids get into colleges everywhere. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and family. God Bless you Tony. The DeWitt Family
