5 Things: School Committee, Library Board of Trustees
A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Braintree on Feb. 25, 2013.
On Feb. 25, 1991, according to the University of Minnesota's math department, a U.S. Patriot Missile battery at a base in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War "failed to track and intercept an incoming Iraqi Scud missile. The Scud struck an American Army barracks, killing 28 soldiers and injuring around 100 other people." The culprit, it turned out, was "computer arithmetic errors." A government report gets a lot more detailed from here, but suffice to say we often forget how much our lives depend on technology.
